SYNTU KSIAR

  • Things to do: Syntu Ksiar, in the Jaintia language literally means “the golden flower”. This is the place from where freedom fighter Kiang Nangbah had initiated the freedom struggle against the British. It is situated on the bank of the river Myntdu. Today, Syntu Ksiar is an extremely popular picnic spot for the locals. You would almost always notice both children and adults angling and swimming in the river here. There is also a beautiful wire suspension bridge that has been built across the river. Additionally, there is also a water harvesting system across this river.
  • Best time to visit: November to April
  • How to reach: It is approximately 67 kms from Shillong and 7 kms from Jowai. A taxi can be taken from both Shillong or Jowai
