Adventure Skill Development Training 2025

The Directorate of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya, invites applications from eligible individuals for the Adventure Skill Development 2025 initiative.
This program is part of the Government’s commitment to promoting responsible, safe, and sustainable adventure tourism under the Meghalaya Tourism Policy.
The initiative aims to build a pool of professionally trained and certified individuals capable of handling adventure activities and emergency responses, thereby strengthening Meghalaya’s position as a premier adventure tourism destination.

Training will be conducted in collaboration with a premier national institute, National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh.


Objectives of the scheme:

  • To build a skilled and certified workforce in the adventure tourism sector of Meghalaya.
  • To enhance the safety standards and quality of services offered to adventure tourists.
  • To create employment opportunities and promote responsible tourism practices.
  • To ensure sustainability in the development of adventure tourism in line with national and state tourism policies.

About the scheme:

The Adventure Skill Development scheme aims to build a skilled and certified workforce in Meghalaya’s adventure tourism sector, ensuring safety, quality, and sustainability as per the Meghalaya Tourism Policy.
The initiative focuses on training professionals in adventure activities, emergency response, and best practices, fostering responsible tourism.
By equipping individuals with essential skills, the program seeks to enhance visitor safety, boost employment opportunities, and promote Meghalaya as a premier adventure tourism destination.

Training:

Under the scheme, the Directorate of Tourism shall undertake training activities on Adventure Skill development under the following details at NIMAS under a fully sponsored program.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Domicile: The Applicant needs to be a domicile of Meghalaya.
    This ensures that the Applicant has a strong understanding of the local context and geographical terrain, enabling them to be effective in their role.
    Proof of domicile must be provided.
  • Age group: The person should be at least 18 years old as of the date of application. Identity proof must be provided
  • Qualifications: Class XII pass

Applications are invited under three levels of proficiency:

  • Level 1: Beginner
    • Adventure Guides / Tour Operators without formal training.
    • Members of Tourism Societies.
    • Youth Group Members at the village level.
  • Level 2: Intermediate
    • Tour Guides / Operators with a minimum of 1 year experience.
    • Individuals with formal Basic Adventure Training.
    • Members of Tourism Societies or Youth Groups with basic training.
  • Level 3: Advanced
    • Tour Guides / Operators with at least 3 years of experience and relevant certifications.
    • Semi-professional / Part-time / Full-time professionals involved in adventure activities.

Selection Process:

Step 1: Application Submission

  • Interested candidates must submit the prescribed application form available on the official Meghalaya Tourism website.
  • Applicants must provide personal details, experience credentials, training certificates (if any), and a statement of purpose.

Step 2: Screening of Applications

  • Applications will be reviewed based on experience, training background, and alignment with the objectives of the program.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.

Step 3: Interview and Final Selection

  • The interview will assess candidates’ practical knowledge of adventure tourism, safety and emergency response awareness, and communication and leadership skills.
  • A total of 30 candidates will be selected for the final training program.
  • Group of 5 candidates will be sent for the training in 6 batches.

Step 4: Confirmation and Enrolment

  • Selected candidates will be notified formally and must confirm their willingness to participate in the full training program.
