A cultural celebration accompanied by dance, music, Khasi cuisine and an array of cultural ceremonies, Shad Suk Mynsiem is the most significant festival of the Khasis.

Overview

  • Also known as “the dance of peaceful hearts”, Shad Suk Mynsiem is an agrarian festival.
  • It is a three-day cultural celebration.
  • The festival is celebrated after the harvest and before the sowing season.
  • The positioning of the dancers reflects the state’s matrilineal practice, with maidens in the middle and the turbaned men surrounding them.
  • The festival displays the traditional attire of the Khasis and their unique ornaments made of gold, silver, and coral beads.
  • The festival also showcases traditional artefacts such as the Waitlam (sword) and Symphiah (whisk).

  • Celebrated in the month of April every year.
  • Held at the Lympung Weiking, Jaiaw, Shillong.
