Wahkhen

The Khasi Musical Heritage Village

The hills come alive with the sound of music from the Khasi Musical Heritage Village – Wahkhen. Situated in Pynursla, about 46km from Shillong, this humble village is deeply rooted in traditional Khasi culture and music. Known for preserving traditional Khasi instruments, Wahkhen has The Sieng Riti Institute where young learners practice Khasi instruments every Sunday. The serene environment is often awakened by rhythmic drums played by talented musicians led by national award-winner Komik Khongjirem and Rojet Buhphang. Beyond culture, Wahkhen also offers the Bamboo Trail, Living Root Bridges, and the trek to Mawryngkhang with breathtaking views of lush green mountains and valleys. Whether you seek tranquillity, trekking adventure, or cultural immersion, Wahkhen offers it all.
